Mulletfest is going back to it's roots in Kurri Kurri

7 YEARS OF MULLETFEST | Returning to our roots in Kurri Kurri
In 2018, mullets were designated to the fringes of society but thanks to an avalanche of national and international media coverage over the last 7 years, the Mullet has made a comeback. Warming the necks of sports stars, teenagers and those brave enough to stand out from the crowd all over the country The simple message from Mulletfest founder Laura Johnson is "You're welcome".
Our first-ever Mulletfest was at home in Kurri Kurri and since then we have traveled all over the country looking for the best locks. If you are a lifer or you have just jumped on board with the Mullet lifestyle Saturday , February 22 is your chance to go head to head with the best mullets in the hunter and see how you measure up.
Like in life, it's not all about how it looks. While the judges are looking for length, cut, and condition, the comp can be won on-stage presence. If you feel out of place everywhere else, you are welcomed onto the stage (and in the crowd) with open arms at Mulletfest. Despite a constant stream of stories about how the iconic hair cup has been banned from some school or pub, we embrace you being yourself and living your best life.
Our patrons are warm and welcoming, They embrace each other's differences and are very generous when it comes to our chosen charity, The Mark Hughes Foundation. Just proving that it's not about what's on your head, it's what's in your heart and the world could use more of that attitude right now. Winning the heat in Kurri Kurri will give you a chance to go up the best Mullets from all over the country when we return for the Grand final in December.
Mulletfest has always been about making people smile and finding a way to give back and we go out of our way to connect with people who do the same. This April we are linking up with Black Dog Institute for Mullets for Mental Health. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44 in Australia and 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year. Your mullet and funds raised will drive real change and help fund crucial mental health research and support services at Black Dog Institute.
